２０２４年春から英検の問題が一部リニューアルされました。本記事では、サンプル問題を解きながら、英検２級の新形式ライティングの「要約」問題で高得点を取るためのコツを紹介していきます。
２級を受ける予定の人は、実際に以下のサンプル問題に取り組んで本番に備えてください！
サンプル問題
●以下の英文を読んで、その内容を英語で要約し、解答欄に記入しなさい。
●語数の目安は４５語～５５語です。
●解答が英文の要約になっていないと判断された場合は、０点と採点されることがあります。英文をよく読んでから答えてください。
Cars that can fly have appeared in many science-fiction stories. For over 100 years, people have been trying to build real flying cars. Some have succeeded, but their flying cars have never been produced in large numbers.
Flying cars were usually too expensive for people to buy. However, a company in the European country of Slovakia thinks that its flying cars can be made at lower prices. As a result, it might soon be common to see flying cars in the sky.
Stefan Klein, the owner of the company, has spent about 30 years trying to develop a flying car. In June 2021, his car made its first trip. The car has now been flown over 200 times, and the government of Slovakia has decided to allow people to use it for air travel. Klein thinks that his company will be able to sell many flying cars.

問題への答え方
ここから答え方の解説をしていきます。まず本文の日本語訳を見てみましょう。
空を飛ぶ車は多くのSF小説に登場してきた。100年以上もの間、人々は本物の空飛ぶ車を作ろうとしてきた。何人かは成功したが、空飛ぶ車が大量に生産されることはなかった。
空飛ぶクルマは通常、値段が高すぎて人々が買うことはできなかった。しかし、ヨーロッパのスロバキアにある会社は、空飛ぶ車をもっと低価格で作ることができると考えている。その結果、空飛ぶクルマが空を飛ぶのを見るのが当たり前になるかもしれない。
この会社のオーナーであるステファン・クライン氏は、空飛ぶ車の開発に約30年を費やしてきた。2021年6月、彼の車は初めて空を飛んだ。この空飛ぶクルマは現在200回以上飛行しており、スロバキア政府はこの空飛ぶクルマを使った空の旅を許可することを決定した。クラインは、彼の会社が多くの空飛ぶ車を販売できるようになると考えている。
とこんな感じです。
本文の内容を理解できたら、次は回答を考えましょう。
《ステップ１》
全文を読んで、話の「主題」や「大枠」をつかむ
全体を読んで、話の「主題」や「大枠（おおわく）」をつかみましょう。「この話は、結局なにを言いたいのか？」というポイントをまずおさえます。
「主題」をおさえずに要約に入ってしまうと、どの部分が重要で、どの部分が重要でないか、の判断ができません。なので、まず全体を通して読んで「大枠」をおさえて、何がテーマの話かをしっかり把握します。
上記のサンプル問題では、「空飛ぶ車」についての話で、それを「低価格で大量に販売しようとしている会社がある」というのが大枠です。
《ステップ２》
どの部分を要約に使うか決めて、マルで囲む
次は、ステップ１で押さえた主題や大枠をもとに、要約文に使えるパーツを本文中から集めます。重要な部分をマルで囲んでいきます。
下の文では、マルの代わりに太字にしてあります。

一段落ずつまとめていく
次は、ステップ２で集めたパーツを使って文を作成します。
１段落目では、
“people have been trying to build real flying cars”
“have never been produced in large numbers”
の二か所をマルで囲みました。
接続詞”although”（～だけれども）を使って上記の二文をつなげると、
“Although people have been trying to build real flying cars, they have never been produced in large numbers”
となります。”Flying cars” を繰り返して使用するのではなく、２回目は代名詞（they）を使います。
次に第２段落では、
“a company in the European contry of Slovakia”
“it might soon be common to see flying cars in the sky”
の２か所を選びました。
“thanks to ~”（～のおかげで）”という表現を使って、
“Thanks to a Slovakian company, it might soon be common to see flying cars in the sky.”
とします。
第３段落は、
“The car has now been flown over 200 times.”
“Klein thinks that his company will be able to sell many flying cars.”
の２か所を選びました。
“Klein”という固有名詞は使わずに、代わりに「会社の」「彼らは」(“company”, “they”)という語を使います。
“The company’s flying car has now been flown over 200 times. They think they will be able to sell many flying cars.”
となります。
《ステップ４》
最後に、全体を通しておかしくないかもう一度チェックしましょう。
サンプル問題の回答例
以下が解答例になります。５８語ですので「４５語～５５語」を少しオーバーしていますが、内容が自然であれば減点されないと思います。
Although people have been trying to build real flying cars, they have never been produced in large numbers. However, thanks to a Slovakian company, it might soon be common to see flying cars in the sky. The company’s flying car has now been flown over 200 times. They think they will be able to sell many flying cars.（５８語）
採点基準
英検HPによれば、２級の要約ライティング問題は１６点満点で、内容・構成・語い・文法の４つの観点で採点されるそうです。本番前に以下のリンクから問題形式を確認しておいてくださいね。
